LIVE Coalition Applauds Expansion of Access

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 14, 2026) — Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear signed Senate Bill 50 into law, marking a significant step forward in modernizing access to estate planning. Among its provisions, the bill adopts the Uniform Electronic Wills Act and the Uniform Estate Planning Documents Act. The new law authorizes the electronic execution and notarization of wills, as well as non-testamentary estate planning documents such as trusts and advance health directives.
With this legislation, Kentucky becomes the eighth state to enable end-to-end digital estate planning. Earlier this year, Utah passed similar legislation, and another bill is currently awaiting the Minnesota governor’s signature.
The Legacy, Innovation & Virtual Estate Planning (LIVE) Coalition applauds Governor Beshear and state leaders for advancing policies that improve access, affordability, and efficiency for families.
“Kentucky is leading the way in the South by embracing thoughtful, technology-driven solutions that make estate planning more accessible,” said Kristina Howard, Executive Director of the LIVE Coalition. “By enabling fully digital execution of essential documents, this law removes unnecessary barriers and empowers families to plan for the future with greater ease, security, and peace of mind.”
Under Senate Bill 50, families can now create and execute key estate planning documents, including wills and trusts, through secure digital processes. The law will reduce administrative burdens, lower costs, and make it easier for individuals to plan for pivotal life moments. By streamlining these processes, it also expands access to estate planning tools, reduces avoidable court involvement and taxpayer costs, and generates meaningful savings for Kentucky families.
With Senate Bill 50, Kentucky is building on national momentum and paving the way for broader nationwide adoption of digital solutions.
